As many of you may know, over a year ago, John's daughter (who will remain unnamed) was taken from him due to FALSE allegations (of child abuse) put forth by his in-laws over a custody dispute. Since the day his daughter was taken, he has not been in contact with her. John's daughter currently resides in a foster home with a family she is familiar with.
On August 2, 2009, John was pulled over and arrested. There had been a warrant out for John's arrest, that he was unaware of. He had a pistol underneath the passengers seat of the car and was also unaware that the permit had expired only a few days before. He voluntarily told the officer about the pistol when he was pulled over. According to Georgia law, a carry permit is not required when the weapon is either in one's house or automobile. Georgia law also states that any person under a warrant is not allowed to have in their possession a handgun. But since he was unaware of the warrant for his arrest, he clearly was unaware he was breaking the law. He spent several days in jail. He later was released.
Up until today, there had been no ruling on his weapon charge. This morning he was deemed not guilty. This verdict is just the start in the long road ahead in the fight for his freedom, and for his daughter.
